I have been asked to curate an illustration exhibit for the Edwardsville Arts Center that will show from April 27th to May 25th 2012. My goal for the show is threefold:

To highlight a broad range of illustrative techniques.

To feature as many of the best illustrators from the St. Louis area as possible.

To serve as an educational resource to introduce area students to the field of illustration.

I’m defining illustration very broadly. I’m looking for art in any medium (including collage, sculpture, animation – seriously ANY medium) you created with the expectations that:

It would be reproduced and

You figured there was a chance you’d get paid for it.

In other words what used to be called “commercial art” before we got all sensitive about it. That includes medical and technical illustrations, architectural renderings, fashion sketches, children’s book Illustration, informational graphics and advertising art… If you’re not sure if your work fits in, it probably does.

Artists interested in participating are encouraged to submit up to three pieces for consideration (see guidelines below). There is no charge for submitting work.

Educational Opportunities

Last year, the Edwardsville Arts Center moved into a new gallery on the Campus of Edwardsville High School and reemphasized its commitment to be both an artistic and educational resource for the region.
In addition to the exhibition, I plan to offer opportunities for students to meet with illustrators. If you are willing to meet with students to discuss or demonstrate your work or to demonstrate your techniques, please let me know at jcook@studiojmc.com.

Submission Guidelines

This is not a juried exhibition but I am asking artists whose work I a

Art must be available during duration of the exhibition.

Submitted images must accurately depict the actual artwork.

Selection of works for the show will be done using JPG images saved to CD or submitted by email to eacillustrator@gmail.com.

Video submissions may be submitted on DVD. Details of video usage in the exhibit will be dependent upon the equipment available. If you have questions, please contact James Cook at jcook@studiojmc.com.

Submit one image per 2-D work, one additional (optional) image for 3-D work.

Images should be saved in proper viewing orientation as standard JPGs with a minimum resolution of 800 x 800 pixels and a maximum resolution of 1080 x 1080 pixels

File names for each JPG image should be in the following format: last_name_image_number.jpg (example: jones_image_01.jpg)

Include an image reference sheet (either printed or as a pdf file) with the following information with your submission:

A thumbnail image for each entry.

Image file name (last_name_image_number.jpg).

Title of work

Media

Size

Price

CDs/DVDs should be labeled with your full name, phone number, mailing address and email address and placed in a protective cover.

Email submissions should include your full name, phone number, mailing and email address.
CDs/DVDs and paperwork will NOT be returned.

Deliver and Pickup

Artist is responsible for timely delivery and pickup of work.

Presentation

All artwork must be ready to install.

Wall displayed art must be framed and equipped with hanging wires.

Video artists, please make special arrangements by contacting jcook@studiojmc.com.

Sales and Purchases Terms of Agreement

At the discretion of the artist, work may be offered for sale. The Edwardsville Arts Center takes 50% commission on all sales. Work remains the property of the artist until sold. EAC provides insurance on all artwork while in possession of the EAC.

Publicity

The Edwardsville Arts Center reserves the right to photograph all exhibited works for publication, publicity and education.

Calendar

Deadline for submission February 24, 2012
